Cornell University admissions are not easy. To get in, you must work towards being in the top percentile of your school and build your CV carefully and consciously to help you reach your goal. Your resume should show your budding interests in your field of study, the motivation to learn and explore and extracurricular activities to show your depth as an individual.
The admission process can be long and arduous. It needs a lot of planning and a great deal of diligence to ensure all the ‘i’s are dotted and all the ‘t’s crossed. Each step carries a specific deadline.
The typical application deadline for an undergraduate course is November 1 (Early decision – Students whose first choice is Cornell can choose Early Decision. If selected, this decision is binding and a student is expected to withdraw other college applications.) or January 2 (for regular application). The application is completed and submitted through CommonApp with no discrepancy between the details entered and any of the supporting documents. In addition, if you are in need of financial aid, those applications must also be submitted at the time of applying.
Here is an example for an admissions checklist:
- Common Application
- SOP
- Guidance Counsellor recommendation
- Teacher evaluations/ recommendations
- Mid-year report, once grades are available
- GRE/ GMAT test scores (for master’s degree courses)
- Official high school/ degree transcript
- $80 as application fee.
If selected, applicants must pay the enrollment deposit by early January for Early decision applicants and by 2 May for regular applicants. The process can get a little overwhelming.
