If you are a student on a tight budget, Singapore is the place to be as, it has a great part-time work policy for working students. World-class in education, internationally acclaimed universities and affordable education costs - no wonder Singapore is fast emerging as a preferred global education hub. The Lion City was ranked 8th in 2021 in INSEAD Global Innovation Index.
1. Global standard of education
What gives an edge to universities in Singapore is their association with other universities around the globe, affordability, and strong industry connections that play a crucial role during job placements at the end of the term.
Many universities offer industry-oriented programmes as well. Some of the renowned polytechnics in Singapore are Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic. The island nation also offers technical studies in business, electronics, media and applied sciences.
2. Apt for foreign students
Many universities in Singapore are home to international campuses of popular global universities such as Curtin University of Australia, University of Nevada of USA and Shanghai Jiaotong University of China. This enables the students to choose from a sea of opportunities and exposes them to global cultures even while they are on campus.
3. Affordable education
Well, education in Singapore may not be very cost-effective (it is listed as one of the most expensive student destinations in Asia). However, it is a lot more cost-efficient in comparison to more expensive destinations such as the UK, the USA and Australia. The average annual tuition fees in Singapore can work out to USD USD 15000-45000 SD.
4. Job opportunities
As per the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore, international students on a Student Pass are eligible to work part-time for 16 hours a week during the term of their courses and for unlimited hours during vacation period. However, students must remember that they can avail of this facility only if their university supports a part-time work programme. That apart, Singapore also offers a bouquet of opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students
International students need to obtain a Pass (Visit Pass) to stay in Singapore and search for jobs for a period of a maximum of 12 months. Once you get a job, you need to apply for the Employment Pass. During studies, several colleges and universities in Singapore offer internships as a part of their curriculum. If you get admitted to a top institute you can gain hands-on experience as the institutes have got excellent tie-ups and links with the industry. Singapore has been blocking visas for Indian IT professionals, so employment scenarios are not too clear currently. However, opportunities exist in ICT, Finance, and Hospitality.
